A pioneer
of climate neutrality

About Us
The Energy Management Department is the central point of contact for all questions related to energy and CO2 emissions.
We are responsible for the Koehler Group’s entire energy portfolio, and leverage this responsibility to ensure that energy is supplied both reliably and competitively. To ensure this, we plan, organize, and implement sustainable and cost-effective energy procurement and sales strategies for all our sites.
In addition to ensuring adherence to a certified energy management system conforming to DIN ISO 50.001, our focus is on ensuring compliance with all obligations related to energy laws and regulations. Within this context, we find ourselves assuming virtually every role involved in the energy industry in Germany, whether that be a power plant operator, an energy-intensive company, or a credit trader in the cap-and-trade-based EU Emissions Trading System.
By expertly implementing energy projects, procuring energy in a sustainable manner with an eye on the long term, and preparing our group-wide greenhouse gas inventory (GHG), we are fulfilling an important part of the Koehler climate strategy while simultaneously contributing to the future viability of the Koehler Group. This makes us an important player and point of contact on the road to achieving Koehler’s “A Visionary Approach to Climate Protection” sustainability goals.

Portfolio management and
expertise from a single source
Competitive-oriented
Through an optimally aligned energy portfolio strategy, we ensure the future viability of energy supply and the competitiveness of the Koehler Group. In doing so, we operate in the European energy markets and make data-driven hedging decisions for our commodities based on market intelligence.
On the safe side
We are an internal partner for energy law and economics, ensuring grid access and the compliant implementation of our activities. We also support third parties on their journey to climate neutrality through our holistic approach to energy topics, from assisting with project development to the marketing of green energy through PPAs.
Sustainability is not a trend for the Koehler Group, but a necessity
No matter what we do, we must make sure that future generations will continue to benefit from prosperity and an intact environment that is worth living in.
The only way we can successfully implement sustainable development at our company is to communicate our sustainability strategy and firmly establish it throughout our entire organization while making sure that our operational goals are aligned with it.
In line with this, we have decided to use the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as guidance. Although these goals are first and foremost intended for nation-states, we at the Koehler Group firmly believe that it is also our responsibility to help make the SDGs a reality. That is why we have identified ten of the seventeen UN goals as areas where we think we can make a contribution to sustainable development both today and in the future. When it comes to the Energy Management Department, our activities contribute primarily to goal 7: “Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.”
