Koehler Renewable Energy was founded in 2012 and has been operational in the UK since 2013. The standalone UK subsidiary, Koehler Renewable Energy UK Ltd, was established in September 2021.
The Dundee-based team has experience of developing, constructing and operating all forms of renewable energy projects, including wind farms, hydroelectric, biomass and solar, across Scotland, the UK and Ireland since 1997.
Koehler Renewable Energy is making an important contribution to the Koehler Group’s sustainability strategy, increasing our renewable energy inputs to complement emission reductions taking place across Koehler’s five factories in Germany.
In addition, this strategy also contributes to the ambitious carbon reduction goals of the Scottish and UK Governments.
Local community engagement.
Because we want to make a difference.
In the UK, the focus is on developing, constructing and operating onshore wind and hydropower projects. As part of these projects and its commitment to communities across Scotland, KRE delivers funding for a range of community led initiatives including for young people, apprentices, and school-leavers, emphasising supporting renewable projects and contributing to Scotland’s net zero agenda.
One such example is the Dragon’s Den event that we sponsored and worked on in collaboration with the Social Enterprise Academy.
More than 70 young entrepreneurs from Dumfries and Galloway schools attended the event on 21 March 2024.
Pupil-led social enterprises from primary and secondary pitched their initiatives and products to a Dragon’s Den panel, including KRE Managing Director Alan Mathewson. The eight presenting teams emphasised social responsibility, sustainable food and coffee, bio-bricks, tackling anti-social behaviour, inclusivity, tackling child neglect, and healthy living.
